The Brick Schoolhouse

Built Circa 1830

Originally known as District One School and built circa 1830, it was once part of a network of 10 schoolhouses throughout the town. Earlier schools had met in private homes where the lady of the house was the teacher. This gabled structure is built on a solid granite foundation, with a side entrance and transom windows over the doorway. Inside, two major rooms open off a center hallway, with a smaller enclosure, probably the schoolmaster's office, at the end.
